Cyclic tense: Discontinuous temporal reference in Djambarrpuyŋu

This paper presents a formal proposal for the semantics of Djambarrpuyŋu tense and temporal reference in Djambarrpuyŋu, Yolŋu (Pama-Nyungan) variety spoken northern Australia. On basis novel data, elicited field, it comprises first treatment “cyclic tense” phenomena, where devices encoding remoteness are ostensibly “recycled” posits hypothesis about diachronic development cyclic systems.
